September is National Papaya Month. I just found this out, but you all probably knew that. Who decides this sort of thing, I wonder? Well, if we’re going to honor the papaya, then let’s see what we can do with this lovely, velvety, rich fruit other than eat it for breakfast. Savory. That’s what I was looking for. And this sauce is savory, rich, subtly sweet and has a wonderful texture. Continue reading
Tzatziki (zat-ZEE-key) is truly summer. Oh yeah, it’s good all year long, but it runs screaming through summer. It’s nasty hot, isn’t it? So it’s time to think about cool things, like this sauce. This is great sauce to serve with
I had fresh garlic scapes, so I thought before I froze some, I’d make garlic butter. You know it’s just good to have some scapes in freezer, you know. So you can make this all year long. Anyway, I was feeling the need for garlic bread. Turns out, adding scapes to regular garlic butter, was a good choice. Great on bread and on a steak…heaven!
Burgers….MMMMM! The Goddess loves her burgers. You can keep filet mignon (except for the Bordelaise sauce) or NY strip (except for the béarnaise sauce—I’m seeing a theme here!), but don’t take away her burgers. She bites the hand that does that. But, this is about the sauce. Just as it should be.
White Flower Farm near Litchfield, CT, had their Tomato Event. It was a beautiful day, spent communing with nature and the truly beautiful, The Orchid Mother. They offered lunch and other goodies, so we dined al fresco on Fried Green Tomato Tacos. The tomato jam was one of the “other” goodies.
This is my version of “special sauce”. It’s great on burgers, steamed or roasted veggies, potatoes (yeah, I know they are veggies, too), roast beef and Reuben sandwiches, too. It’s a great dip, too.
This is The Goddess’s first posting from rainy South Florida, and what better meal than red snapper and shrimp with a great sauce? (Did I mention, it’s all about the sauce? I did…oh, okay!) I had forgotten how often it rains here, but that did not dampen our dinner, the first one together in our little furnished apartment…it’s like we’re newlyweds again!
I just saw an article on the Epicurious website about spicy honey. Sweet and heat are spectacular together. Some things are just meant to be…like Fred and Ginger, salt and pepper, beer and pizza (a holdover from college, I think) to name a few.
The Sons and The Latin Lover revere gravy as if it’s an elixir that brings the Wisdom of the Ages to those that consume it. You know, like a food group unto itself.
