Sloppy Joe’s are one of those wonderful memories we have from childhood.  I love them.  I still do.  I like mine on potato rolls, with slices of raw onion, dill pickle slices  and potato chips on the side.  MMM…what a wonderful memory!  Continue reading →

038I’m reposting this, because well my God…look at that crust.  And tomorrow is St. Pat’s Day.  And make the Creamy Horseradish-Mustard Sauce today.  It’s a must.  So back to the post…Slow-roasted, brown sugar-crusted corned beef with beer and onion gravy.  Why would you save this just for St. Patrick’s Day?  It’s much too good and so simple to be left to one day a year.  It makes a great Sunday dinner and the house will smell good enough to eat!  Continue reading →

Fried Bologna "Reuben" SandwichI love me a good Reuben Sandwich.  I’ve posted a couple of versions before, The Classic and The Breakfast Reuben.  I’m not such a purest that I’m not willing to try a new angle on my old favorite, hence The Fried Bologna Reuben Sandwich!  Continue reading →

Creamy Russian Dressing

cider vinegar, dry chopped onions, garlic granules, horseradish, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, pickle beet, Spices, tomato paste

Creamy Russian DressingRussian dressing?  No.  This is really more of a spread or dip.  It’s this creamy version that absolutely makes a perfect Reuben sandwich.  I love Reuben sandwiches.  I think they are my favorite grilled sandwich and largely it’s because of a good, thick schmear of this little bit of heaven.  This is pretty decent on a burger and it absolutely makes a roast beef sandwich.  Oh, yeah…you can actually dress a salad, with it too! maple extract, maple syrup, mustard, olive oil, rice wine vinegar, vegetable oil

Mustard-Maple Vinaigrette This is a nice little vinaigrette to have in your fridge.  It’s spring-y and wonderful and just perfect to dress the deliciously spring-filled Field of Greens Salad.  It’s darn decent drizzled over roasted or grilled asparagus, too.  Continue reading →

Hot Dog PizzaThis was our Friday night pizza.  I’ve made it before, but it had slipped my mind, but Hot Dog Pizza is just a hot dog, deconstructed into pizza form.   Why not?  It tastes great and kids (of all ages) love it.  It’s perfect for the weekend, for kid or adult sleep-overs, and Super Bowl Sunday!  Are you sensing a theme here?  Continue reading →

Rhineland Stuffed Chicken BreastsAs I mentioned in the recent Czech-German Sauerkraut post, I served these lovely breasts with the sauerkraut, instead of the more traditional pork.  Turns out, to be rather tasty and I will make this for The Latin Lover, sans the sauerkraut.  Continue reading →

Hot Potato Salad with Bacon, Cheese and Sun-Dried TomatoesYou know how The Goddess loves potato salads of all kinds.  She’s given you Classically Good Potato Salad, French-Style Potato Salad and Grilled Potato Salad.  This one is pretty much a basic potato salad, but she riffed on the dressing used for German potato salad and then threw in a few things she thought would be tasty.  Continue reading →

Cheeseburger & "Fries" CasseroleWho doesn’t love a good cheeseburger?  And nice, crispy fries?  So, The Goddess was thinking this might just work in a casserole.  You know how she’s into these one-dish or skillet dinners.  Many time when she thinks something will work, it doesn’t work as well as it does in her mind’s-eye.  But, this turned out to be incredibly, almost indecently, tasty.    Continue reading →

Not-Quite-Classic Creamy ColeslawAs I mentioned in the post for the Broccoli-Apple Slaw with Cranberries, I’ve discovered broccoli slaw, that mixture of shredded broccoli that lives in the produce department of your supermarket.  We really liked that slaw, but it’s not exactly a “classic” slaw.  So why not make a more classic version of coleslaw, but using the broccoli instead?  Seriously.  Why not?  We’re flexible, aren’t we and this is just as delicious.  Maybe even better.  Continue reading →
