Fresh peach pie tends to disappoint me. It never seems to do justice to the flavor of a fresh, fabulous peach. It’s a bias I have, but I’m working on it. And that’s when I decided that maybe if I used part nectarines, I might be happier with the end result. Yes! Continue reading
My mother came from a long line of damn fine cooks. Some cooked meat well, others were bakers. I always think of Aunt Mary as a baker. Though I suspect she could make a mean pot roast. She made this pie. It was her little bit of heaven, and it is a culinary delight to behold.
It’s stone fruit season…you know the fruits that have a single pit (seed) in the center of the fruit? All the various, and there are quite a number, of varieties of apricots, peaches, plums, and nectarines, are stone fruits. And this time of year, there’s nothing better than biting into a perfectly ripe peach or nectarine, except maybe biting into a nice piece of pie!
Pumpkin Pie is as much a part of Thanksgiving as turkey. Have you noticed that? But, it shouldn’t just be a Thanksgiving pie. It’s so easy to prepare, it should grace our tables more frequently. Let’s all work on that, okay?
With autumn upon us, and all those lovely apples and apple cider, I decided to slightly rethink my apple pie. The roots are the same as the Spiced Caramel Apple Pie, with all the warm spices, but I decided I wanted to “punch” up the apple taste to help create another little slice of heaven.

‘Tis the time of year for pies and tarts. Autumn…mmmmm! Such good, rich flavors and pears and apples are always a big part of that. Apple pie is a favorite of the men in The Goddess’s life, but she’s sort of partial to a combination of pears and apples.
Apple pie, with all the warm spices, is a slice of heaven for dessert or breakfast. And why not for breakfast? You have apple Danish, don’t you? Think about a nice slice of apple pie for breakfast…it makes Monday worth getting out of bed for!
There’s something about pies and men…well women, too. From time to time we have folks over for dinner and when The Goddess decides it will be pie for dessert, she’s always bemused by the reaction people (read “men” here!) have. They get sort of glassy-eyed, perhaps a tear forms and then they get this satisfied grin, “There’s going to be pie for dessert….”
