The Goddess has never met a potato she doesn’t like…you too?  And mashed potatoes offer the most amazing amount of comfort to her.  I think they do to many people.  If you’re a purest, then take a look at Mashed Potato Perfection.  Continue reading →

caramel sauce, Challah, chocolate chips, cream, eggs, salt, sugar, vanilla extract, whole milk

This is different from the bread pudding I usually make.  It’s less dense and while it’s custardy, it isn’t overly custardy.  Does that make any sense at all?  Quite awhile back, when we could still dine out, The Goddess brunched at Rouge, in Philadelphia.  This is her version of their fantastic bread pudding.  Continue reading →

I don’t know about you, but The Latin Lover and The Goddess seem to like to begin their weekend with pizza.  Sure, we can get take-out.  It’s good.  Sometimes it’s even great pizza, but you can make your own and it isn’t that difficult.  Really.  It isn’t.  Continue reading →

When I was a child, bread pudding was a frequent visitor to our table.  My father loved custard-y things and my mother’s bread pudding fit that bill perfectly.  I make mine  a bit different, but the roots are in that farm kitchen.  Continue reading →

Braised Beef with Orange and FigsI’ve been reading this really interesting cookbook, ****************.   Actually, it’s less of a cookbook, though they have some wonderful recipes, and more of a reference work.  At least for me it is.  The authors are a chef and a specialist in scents.  What a combination, right?  Continue reading →

The Dynamite Doula, a young woman who is near-and-dear to us, invited us over for lunch.  She has a new “InstaPot”, the pressure cooker-sauté pan-slow cooker pot and a whole lot more.  It turns out we have the same one, kindred spirits that we are!  Anyway, she, and her Dear One, served us a version of this wonderful, rib-sticking, winter-chasing bean soup.  It was supremely delicious, The Spicy Honey loved it and so I decided to see if I can come close to repeating her soup.  Continue reading →

One Layer Chocolate-Cherry CakeThe Goddess likes cake.  Yes, she does.  She doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth, but chocolate cake is so good for breakfast.  This recipe is a riff on that old Peg Bracken cake from her “I Hate to Cook” cookbook.  In her recipe, you mix the cake right in the pan you’re going to bake it in.  It was a drop-dead easy recipe and had such a good flavor, so naturally The Goddess tossed in some bing cherries…naturally.  Continue reading →

What?  Has The Goddess been smoking herbs again?  You might think that, but this came to be because she forgot to make pizza dough.  And anyway, this is pretty much pizza, cooked in an oven-to-table pan, finished in the oven and served with good Italian bread to scoop up all that yumminess.  So, it’s pizza, without a crust.  Continue reading →
