Decadent Deep-Dish Chocolate Chip Cookies with Dulce de Leche and Bacon with just a few sprinkles of sea salt!In The Goddess’s little world, there aren’t too many things better than Chocolate Chip Cookies.  Particularly fresh out of the oven, all gooey and creamy soft in the center, with just a hint of crispness around the edges.  Excuse me, but I need a moment to savor this thought.  Continue reading →

The Eldest Son loves bread pudding.  Since he was going to be around, and I had some day old bread around, I thought, why not?  I also had some very ripe bananas around, and I thought…hmmm, why wouldn’t these two flavors work well together?  And they did!  Continue reading →

119I think it’s fair to say that most of us don’t think, “zucchini and chocolate…MMMMM.  Now there’s a combination made in heaven!”  I know I didn’t.  But guess what?  You should absolutely think good and happy thoughts about that combination, because this is an absolutely delicious cake.  Continue reading →

It’s that time of year.  The lazy, hazy days of summer.  The hammock and a tall, cold drink.  And then there’s the zucchini.  Don’t you love that first zucchini?  You sauté it and relish its fresh, clean flavor, thinking, “I could eat these forever”.  Continue reading →

042 - CopyIt’s all about the sauce.  And this is a fantastic version, the Russian Sable of Fudge Sauces.  This is THE Fudge Sauce.  Okay, so you get that it’s really good, right?  The Flying Librarian makes a hot fudge that may, may be even better than this, but she refuses to give me the recipe…some nonsense about swearing on her son’s life, so she won’t give out the recipe.  Sometimes you just have to take the risk.  It’s fudge sauce.  Is she kidding?  Continue reading →

052I’ve had this recipe for Russian dressing, given to me by a colleague from my single days, for years.  God, that was decades ago.  Anyway, she made this all the time; this was her go-to dressing and with good reason.  It’s simple and a rather nice change of pace from bottled dressings of this ilk…a little sweet, a little tangy and drop-dead easy!  The perfect summer dressing…. 091I mentioned a couple of things in yesterday’s Classically Good Potato Salad post—boiled dressing and Hard-boiled Eggs.  Neither of those things sound very sexy, do they?  But, these are both things you should know how to prepare well….first, boiled dressing….  Continue reading →

Rhubarb is spring and early summer.  How something so sour, when mixed with a bit of sugar and/or strawberries can taste so good, is beyond the scope of The Goddess’s comprehension…but delicious it is.  I’m partial to rhubarb crisp, rather than pie.  I love the buttery, crunching topping and when I make a pie, I prefer to use this topping.  Continue reading →

Any proper tea will have lovely scones (rhymes with “cons”) which are similar to biscuits, but “shorter”.  This is a reference to texture, not stature.  When you hear the term “short”, it usually applies to non-yeast baked goods that have a high ratio of butter to flour.  They tend to be very rich, crumbly, and tender, and they tend toward crispness rather than chewy.   That describes these lovelies to a “tea”…   Continue reading →

This is the dessert for dessert lovers!  It’s oozy, boozy and decadently rich.  This is the perfect dessert for a casual get together with 10 of your closest friends, but it will easily serve 16 people.  You’ll want leftovers.  After everyone leaves, late at night, one plate with 2 forks…where you go from there is up to you….
