This is a sauce for steak.  It’s particularly delicious with bleu cheese.  It’s a gorgeous.  Its rich, almost creamy mouth-feel, makes for a complex flavor.  But, it isn’t complicated to make.  And it’s best when made ahead and it reheats very well.  Perfect for entertaining.  Your guests will feel pampered. This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_6784-e1617219729973.jpgThe folks over at Leite’s Culinaria posted this terrific sounding Banana Bread with Nutella.  Yes.  Nutella.  And I had a jar of Nutella in the cupboard, and several very ripe bananas just waiting for such a recipe.  But…and you knew there would be a “but”, didn’t you?  Because The Goddess can never, ever just leave a recipe alone.  This time, I think you’ll be very happy that she didn’t! One Layer Chocolate-Cherry CakeThe Goddess likes cake.  Yes, she does.  She doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth, but chocolate cake is so good for breakfast.  This recipe is a riff on that old Peg Bracken cake from her “I Hate to Cook” cookbook.  In her recipe, you mix the cake right in the pan you’re going to bake it in.  It was a drop-dead easy recipe and had such a good flavor, so naturally The Goddess tossed in some bing cherries…naturally.  Continue reading →

Tea Cup Chocolate CakeIn days past, before measurements were standardized, this is how things were put together.  Every woman had her “special” tea cup, she used just for baking, or not.  This is the way my grandmother made chocolate cake.  And what a cake it is. Continue reading →

Mocha-Bourbon Chewy, Fudgy BrowniesI’m a chewy, fudgy brownie-type of woman.  Cake brownies are well, just cake, really.  Brownies should be dense and moist and rich.  These brownies are all that, but they have the added bonus of coffee and bourbon.  We’ll say these are “adult” brownies…I think they’re better the next day, but they’re damn fine, just out of the oven and cooled for maybe 15 minutes, too…damn fine! Spicy Mexican BrowniesIs there anyone who doesn’t love brownies?  Really.  Is there?  But, now the big question…are you a fudgy-type or cake brownie-type of person?  I’m afraid, I’m both.  But, I definitely lean fudgy!  And these are fudgy, but with a little kick of heat at the back…Nice!  Continue reading →

Bumpy Road BrowniesThese little oozy, gooey squares of rich, chewy chocolate goodness are perfect for…well pretty much anytime.  I’ve been making a non-chocolate based version of these for years.  Yeah, alright…I should have thought about this sooner, but I didn’t.  Better late than never.  Continue reading →
