The Teriyaki BurgerI love and adore The Spicy Honey and The Progeny.  From a culinary standpoint…I love and adore burgers.  All of them.  Every iteration I’ve ever eaten.  This one is a favorite.  It’s good rain or shine, winter or summer, for dinner or breakfast.  Continue reading →

Teriyaki Burger SauceBurgers….MMMMM!  The Goddess loves her burgers.  You can keep filet mignon (except for the Bordelaise sauce) or NY strip (except for the béarnaise sauce—I’m seeing a theme here!), but don’t take away her burgers.  She bites the hand that does that.  But, this is about the sauce.  Just as it should be. Cuban Frita with Shoestrings and Salsa CremosaThat’s right…those Cubans even have their own version of a burger…the Frita.  This is a burger made with pork or a combination of beef and pork, seasoned, fried, placed on a bun, drizzled with a creamy sauce and shoestring potato sticks all over the top.  I’ll just let you think about that for a moment…. Leftovers Ah, leftovers…The Goddess loves leftovers.  I think she’s mentioned that before, you know, twenty or thirty times, at least.  Here, Cuban-Style Pot Roast, Deconstructed is, quite literally, “blown apart” into an entirely new dish.   Continue reading →

Stuffed Pork Loin with Espresso-Cider GravyBoth of my parents long ago left this world for the big farm in the sky.  They had a good life, a long life and they were pretty happy people.  It doesn’t get too much better than that.  Anyway, yesterday would have been my father’s birthday and today would have been my mother’s birthday.  So my thoughts turned to pork.  In my family, food was much bigger than any gift.  It was the gift.  And pork was always there.  Continue reading →

I was going to call this fish pie, but that seemed misleading; there’s no crust.  And when most people hear “pie” they expect crust.  But most everyone knows that shepherd’s pie is a mixture of meat (in this case, fish) and vegetables topped with mashed potatoes.  And most everyone knows that Neptune was the Roman God of the Sea…hence, Neptune’s Shepherd’s Pie seemed more accurate.  Continue reading →

Sweet-Sour Gravy from Corned BeefThe Goddess just realized she has never done a dedicated post to gravy.  What was she thinking?  She’s teased you with snippets, little bits and pieces of “how-to”, but never really spelled it out…G-R-A-V-Y!  If you’re not happy with your gravy, hopefully this post will help you make it perfectly!  Continue reading →
