This is a simple, rustic dessert. Comfort food. It has a good apple flavor, held together by a cakey pudding. Sort of a cross between apple pie and cake-like pudding. Pure comfort. Continue reading
With autumn upon us, and all those lovely apples and apple cider, I decided to slightly rethink my apple pie. The roots are the same as the Spiced Caramel Apple Pie, with all the warm spices, but I decided I wanted to “punch” up the apple taste to help create another little slice of heaven.
Rum Pot is such a nice gift to give yourself for Christmas. It’s an even better gift to give to your holiday guests. The fruit is wonderful served with ice cream, over pound cake or bread pudding or in a bowl with a spoon…just as long as you’re not driving! Then there’s the liqueur. But, you need to start a Rum Pot in the summer.
This is a light, but moist cake, with a nice pure flavor and a great texture. It doesn’t have an over-pronounced banana flavor. It’s subtle. And it’s tropical, with bananas, coconut and rum.
It’s almost strawberry season. I’m impatient. So, I purchase supermarket strawberries, just to get myself in the mood. They are almost always a disappointment, but oddly enough, even those work reasonably well with this lovely springtime dessert.
Crêpes are wonderfully flexible, but not eaten nearly enough. They seem to have become passé. They’re no longer as exotic or sexy, as they once were. And, it’s a damn shame, I tell you. So let’s bring them back.
These little oozy, gooey squares of rich, chewy chocolate goodness are perfect for…well pretty much anytime. I’ve been making a non-chocolate based version of these for years. Yeah, alright…I should have thought about this sooner, but I didn’t. Better late than never.
What’s up using peaches in the winter? They aren’t in season, so what is The Goddess thinking? Well, she’s thinking that frozen fruit is a blessing and prolongs the seasons. What could be more surprising and delicious than peaches at Christmas?
Cassata is a wonderful dessert. It’s perhaps, sponge cake at its very best. Brush on some Lemoncello®, smear on a ricotta-mascarpone filling and serve with a wonderfully fresh, macerated fruit compote and YUM! There’s just one other thing…this has to be made ahead, which makes it the perfect dinner party dessert.
‘Tis the time of year for pies and tarts. Autumn…mmmmm! Such good, rich flavors and pears and apples are always a big part of that. Apple pie is a favorite of the men in The Goddess’s life, but she’s sort of partial to a combination of pears and apples.
