Apple Pie with Maple-Bourbon Ice CreamThere’s something about pies and men…well women, too.  From time to time we have folks over for dinner and when The Goddess decides it will be pie for dessert, she’s always bemused by the reaction people (read “men” here!) have.  They get sort of glassy-eyed, perhaps a tear forms and then they get this satisfied grin, “There’s going to be pie for dessert….” Continue reading →

Decadent Deep-Dish Chocolate Chip Cookies with Dulce de Leche and Bacon with just a few sprinkles of sea salt!In The Goddess’s little world, there aren’t too many things better than Chocolate Chip Cookies.  Particularly fresh out of the oven, all gooey and creamy soft in the center, with just a hint of crispness around the edges.  Excuse me, but I need a moment to savor this thought.  Continue reading →

The Eldest Son loves bread pudding.  Since he was going to be around, and I had some day old bread around, I thought, why not?  I also had some very ripe bananas around, and I thought…hmmm, why wouldn’t these two flavors work well together?  And they did!  Continue reading →

It’s that time of year.  The lazy, hazy days of summer.  The hammock and a tall, cold drink.  And then there’s the zucchini.  Don’t you love that first zucchini?  You sauté it and relish its fresh, clean flavor, thinking, “I could eat these forever”.  Continue reading →

042 - CopyIt’s all about the sauce.  And this is a fantastic version, the Russian Sable of Fudge Sauces.  This is THE Fudge Sauce.  Okay, so you get that it’s really good, right?  The Flying Librarian makes a hot fudge that may, may be even better than this, but she refuses to give me the recipe…some nonsense about swearing on her son’s life, so she won’t give out the recipe.  Sometimes you just have to take the risk.  It’s fudge sauce.  Is she kidding?  Continue reading →

Yup, that’s the Elvis special there in the picture.  Banana-Peanut Butter Ice Cream, except, well…ummm, it isn’t ice cream at all.  The Goddess lied to you.  It’s actually frozen bananas that have been whirled up in the food processor with some peanut butter, and a smidge of bourbon and vanilla extract.  Continue reading →

An Assortment of BasilsBasil, is more than just pesto.  We tend to use it in savory ways, but it’s great used in a sweet, dessert-type way too.  Basil like mint, comes in flavors.  Here we have from the top left corner (clockwise) Purple basil, Thai basil, Lemon basil, Columnar basil, Variegated basil and Genovese basil, the one we’re probably most familiar with.  Continue reading →
