cayenne pepper, cornstarch, half and half, heavy cream, lemon juice, lemon zest, tarragon, whole egg, whole milk

No, you didn’t misread that.  This is “almost” hollandaise sauce.  It looks like it.  It tastes like it…so what’s the deal?  Well, no butter!  Yes!  Now you’re asking, why, for the love of all that’s holy in the kitchen, wouldn’t you want butter in a hollandaise sauce?  Let’s face it, hollandaise has to be made last minute…it really does.  It doesn’t reheat well and it’s a bit on the rich side, right?  This has all the really good properties of a real-deal hollandaise sauce, but without the drawbacks…and you can have more without feeling like over-stuffed! Asian eggplants, bell pepper, broth, chili garlic sauce, Eggplant, Garlic, ghee, Mushrooms, Onions, pomegranate molasses, rice flour, Spices, Walnuts

I love eggplant…my favorite ways are usually the way the Asian use them.  Salty, sweet with a crispy exterior and a creamy interior…but, then there’s baba ganoush.  And the Brazilians serve it simply grilled, with maybe a drizzle of olive oil and vinegar.  Okay…so it really doesn’t matter in what cuisine the flavors lay, I’m there for eggplant!  Continue reading →

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_0474.jpgBrussels Sprout and Fennel Chowder.  Hmmmm.  Intriguing, no?  There’s cabbage soup, so why not Brussels sprouts, in liquid form.  Well, folks, it works and it works well.  This soup is vegetarian, even vegan, if you omit the cheese (but why would you?).  It’s filling, without being heavy. And most importantly, it just tastes really, really delicious.  Continue reading →

I’ve had Banh Mi on my mind recently.  At this point, venturing out for a Banh Mi, is foolishly indulgent, no matter how good it is.  And these are good!  Solution?  Make some for the The Latin Lover and me.  To that end, a meatloaf seemed like the place to start.  This is that meatloaf.  Continue reading →
