This should probably be called a salsa. But then most people conjure up a flavor profile of tomatoes, onions, peppers, with maybe a bit of fruit tossed in. That’s not this…at all. I’m serving this with very simply prepared fish, but it’s all about the fruit mixture. I could seriously eat the whole bowl. Just standing there, leaning up against the cupboard…it’s that good. Fresh peach pie tends to disappoint me. It never seems to do justice to the flavor of a fresh, fabulous peach. It’s a bias I have, but I’m working on it. And that’s when I decided that maybe if I used part nectarines, I might be happier with the end result. Yes!
This isn’t exactly a chutney. It’s really a cross between a chutney and a relish. It’s sweet and sour. It’s fruity, but with a hit of savory because of the Worcestershire and vinegar. You know, it really doesn’t matter what we call it. What matters is that it’s delicious!
We had a wonderful weekend with The Middle Progeny, The Unbound Reader, who were kind enough to interrupt their busy lives and bring our brilliant granddaughter to the Carolinas. All the various, and there are quite a number, of varieties of apricots, peaches, plums, and nectarines, are stone fruits. And this time of year, there’s nothing better than biting into a perfectly ripe peach or nectarine, except maybe biting into a nice piece of pie!
Sangria is a great summer drink. For some reason, women seem to enjoy it more than men. The Latin Lover isn’t a fan. The Goddess is. This is a fruity, not-too-sweet, white wine version. It is the perfect summer drink. It’s time to bring out the pitcher and the glasses.
Fruit relishes are a wonderful way to preserve have the summer flavors on the autumn and winter table. I love these with Thanksgiving turkey and don’t get me started on how good this relish is on a turkey sandwich. Not only that, fruit relishes are relatively easy.
Rum Pot is such a nice gift to give yourself for Christmas. It’s an even better gift to give to your holiday guests. The fruit is wonderful served with ice cream, over pound cake or bread pudding or in a bowl with a spoon…just as long as you’re not driving! Then there’s the liqueur. But, you need to start a Rum Pot in the summer.
