An Assortment of BasilsBasil, is more than just pesto.  We tend to use it in savory ways, but it’s great used in a sweet, dessert-type way too.  Basil like mint, comes in flavors.  Here we have from the top left corner (clockwise) Purple basil, Thai basil, Lemon basil, Columnar basil, Variegated basil and Genovese basil, the one we’re probably most familiar with.  Continue reading →

I’m certain you’re tired of hearing about hummus.  There are tons of recipes out there to make it and admittedly you can purchase some decent hummus, but I thought I would share this seasonal-flavored version.  Besides, look at the color!  Isn’t it just too pretty not to taste good?  Continue reading →

006Summer rolls are an absolute favorite of The Goddess and her peeps.  They are the perfect summer dinner on a scorching hot day, but really I can eat these any day, any time, any season.  The most difficult part is rolling them, and after about 2 or 3, you get the hang of it pretty quickly.  They are fast to prepare, can be made ahead, and are delicious.  The kind of thing you can whip up (or roll up) after work, in a flash.  Continue reading →

002I was flying around the Interwebs, as The Goddess tends to do too frequently for the dust bunnies gathering for an assault, when I ran across this entry on Pinch of Yum‘s blog.  I knew instantly that I was going to become intimate friends with this sauce.  It’s avocado-based, but with so much more to offer…. It was drizzly, and rather chilly today…you may have heard…it’s Spring!  Soup seemed like the perfect antidote to not-so-perfect weather.  This soup has everything green and everything springtime in it.  It’s a flexible soup, too.  You can limit the mixture to 2 or 3 ingredients or expand it 5 or 6.  And if that’s not enough, there are also flavor or seasoning options.    Continue reading →

048Dill weed, which refers to the actual leaves, is possibly one of the most aromatic herbs we have in our culture.  If you are of Scandinavian, Greek, German or European descent, then you will probably be more familiar with the lovely flavor of dill.  Continue reading →

202Potato bread is special.  It’s wonderfully soft and chewy with a, wait for it, potato-y flavor!  How surprising, huh?  It makes great toast and is the perfect bread for BLT’s and ham sandwiches.  Don’t even get me started on egg salad sandwiches, which will be perfect for your leftover Easter eggs. Increasing the sugar by a few tablespoons and adding some currants to the dough and you’ll have…hot cross buns!  Continue reading →

Perfectly cooked lamb chops are a culinary wonder to be savored.  And the Rhubarb-Hibiscus Bourbon Sauce is a perfect union; they are a natural together.  The slight gaminess of the lamb, the lavender in the Herbes de Provence, the tartness of the rhubarb…this dish is Spring!  Continue reading →

We’re killing 2 birds with one recipe today!  We’re looking at the technique of pan-roasting, which is a terrific way to prepare chicken and fish, but it works for most meats, too.  Pan-roasting, to put it simply is browning the meat/fish in question in a large oven-proof pan, then sliding the pan into the oven and finishing the cooking there.  And in this case, we’re going to be using the Goddess Herbes de Provence blend from the tarragon post.  I love it when a plan somewhat comes together, don’t you?  Continue reading →

179Thomas Jefferson (or “Tee-Jay”, his lesser known rapper name), from his travels in Europe, brought the Colonies the lovely flavor of tarragon. He was a Francophile in the largest sense; if it was French, it was good…and tarragon is very good, indeed.
