If you’ve ever eaten in an Indian restaurant, then you’ve had this. The Goddess has been known to have a bowl of this. You think she’s kidding? She is not. This stuff is addictive, because it’s just, plain delicious. Continue reading
Apple butter is autumn in a jar. I love it spread on toast, or along side slices of pork. It’s comforting and just plain, delicious. But, it can be quite a bit of work, and you know The Goddess is one lazy…uh, well, Goddess. So, she came up with this version and she’s happy to report, it’s delicious.
Russian dressing? No. This is really more of a spread or dip. It’s this creamy version that absolutely makes a perfect Reuben sandwich. I love Reuben sandwiches. I think they are my favorite grilled sandwich and largely it’s because of a good, thick schmear of this little bit of heaven. This is pretty decent on a burger and it absolutely makes a roast beef sandwich. Oh, yeah…you can actually dress a salad, with it too!
Condiments! I love ’em! They add an unexpected zing! to life. They make great gifts and they are just so flexible, easy to make and really, just plain delicious! Take this lovely chutney…it’s a somewhat unexpected combination of flavors, it’s gorgeous at the holidays and damn, is it delicious with latkes or

I think it’s even better reheated, making it perfect for company. And, this compote positively screams autumn!
The Goddess has always been a huge believer in sampling local products and cuisine. She was there long before it became a “thing”. But, she’s darned glad it did become a thing. To that end, she found some Muscadine grapes at the Farmer’s Market. They are pretty much a wild grape, that’s indigenous to the Southern part of the US, in particular North Carolina. So she bought herself some and made preserves.
You know, The Goddess has mentioned now and then how much she enjoys condiments…Okay, she tends to go on bit about them. And with good reason. Compound or flavored butters are condiments, too. And this is one of the best.
Since so many of us grill more over the summer, I thought I would just pass this “custom” BBQ sauce along to you. This is one of those recipes that is ever-changing. It is intended to be personalized to your flavor preferences, but no matter what, it’s just a great sauce to make ahead or at a moments notice.
We just finished exploring the Art Fair in Boca Raton, and we were hungry. So we checked out “BBQ near me”—isn’t technology great? Anyway, less than a mile away was “Mississippi Sweets BBQ Co”. Thanks, Siri…what a find.
I’m calling this a schmear. But, you can call it whatever your little heart desires…a dip, a spread, a condiment…you get the picture. If you enjoy dill pickles, you’re going to love this. It is THE perfect “special sauce” to schmear on a burger! Think about it….
