all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, black pepper, buttermilk, cheddar cheese, fresh herbs, olive oil, parmesan cheese

Okay, so this should really be called “Cheese-Herb” Quick Bread, because there’s way more cheese than herb.  But, I think the herbs are much more of a forward flavor, than the cheese…whatever you call it, doesn’t matter.  Just make it… Continue reading →

Mojo Verde (Green Sauce)This is similar to The Goddess’s Green Goddess, in that it’s creamy and green!  The herbs are entirely different, so the flavor is different.  But, delicious?  Oh, yeah.  This is terrific to dress a potato or pasta salad, smear on a chicken sandwich and it is wonderful on a nice green salad with bacon bits.  But, The Goddess loves, loves, loves to dip roasted baby potatoes into this fine elixir…heaven!  Pure heaven! The Goddess's Dilly Ranch Salad Dressing and DipAre we tired of Ranch Dressing yet?  Come on…you know we all love it.  Don’t we?  I’ve made Ranch for years, many times using the dry packet and embellishing it with more dill.  The Goddess loves her dill.  So why not make it from scratch?  This is where we’ve ended up…for the moment, anyway.  It’s terrific drizzled over a nice piece of salmon, on a baked potato, a shingle or on slices of garden tomatoes.  Continue reading →

Slaw with Mandarin Orange and JicamaSlaws are underrated, in The Goddess’s ever so humble opinion.  I think perhaps we think they are too ordinary, which is too bad.  They don’t have to be.  Explore your inner, creative side and slaw away!   Continue reading →

Spiced Pumpkin Bread with Cranberries and DatesThe Goddess loves this time of year, when the frost is on the pumpkin, the leaves are a riot of color and there’s just a slight chill in the air.  It’s soup weather.  It’s stew and chili weather.  And it’s time to make pumpkin bread!  Continue reading →

Oeufs Mayonnaise (Eggs Cloaked in "Almost Homemade" Mayonnaise)Eggs, garden tomatoes, arugula and cloaked in a light mayonnaise sauce…what could be better to start off a meal?  Or for lunch, with good bread?  I was reminded of this bistro favorite, in an article in The New Yorker, and I’m so very glad it nudged my memory.  This is a delicious way to kick off a summer meal, when the tomatoes are prime and the temperature peaks.  Continue reading →

Mrs. Creagh’s Rustic Irish Soda Bread

The Goddess, not being of Irish descent, had not yet acquired a taste for Irish soda bread.  That is, she didn’t see the point of it, until she tried Anjelica Huston’s version.  Apparently, the Huston family lived in Ireland, while Anjelica was a mere slip of a lass and she grew up eating this bread every day with breakfast, lunch and dinner.  It is by far the best version I’ve had; it is absolutely delicious served warm, with good butter. 033My New Year gift to you is this recipe for pancakes.  You will never use a pancake mix again.  This is just too easy and simple to prepare.  It doubles and triples easily and no matter what, it makes light, fluffy, meltingly tender pancakes to slather in maple syrup.  As the aroma wafts through you house, sleepy heads (and hungover heads) will rise and shine.  Continue reading →
