Who the hell is Dom Pedro you’re asking? And what does he have to do with pot roast? The Portuguese-born Dom Pedro I was the first ruler of the Empire of Brazil back in the 19th century. He has nothing to do with pot roast per se, but here we join together some of the best of both Portuguese and Brazilian flavors, for a winning combination.
The Goddess likes cake. Yes, she does. She doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth, but chocolate cake is so good for breakfast. This recipe is a riff on that old Peg Bracken cake from her 


Yes, I know you can purchase taco seasoning, but this is incredibly simple to prepare and way more economical. Sometimes taco seasoning can be too salty for our taste. But, making your own allows you to control the amount of added salt and you can guarantee that it’s gluten-free!
Glazes can make a piece of meat or poultry. Since we’re looking at Easter (and this may work for a Passover lamb, too), I thought I might pass on a couple of simple glaze options for ham, pork or lamb. Truth be told, these could work well with turkey, too, but you’re on own, as I haven’t tried that…yet!
We’ve already talked about the spectacularly delicious tea, Lapsang Souchong Oolong. It’s smoky and makes an interesting cup of tea. But, I like to use the tea for cooking. It is just the perfect addition to this simple dry rub for meat. You can use it on other things, but it positively sings on beef…we’re talking a full-fledged aria.
Coffee is essential to the life-blood of The Goddess. If she doesn’t have a cup in her hand, she’s thinking about getting one. Coffee adds a wonderful richness to foods. And well, it just tastes so damn good.
