Crêpes with Ricotta-Mascarpone Filling & StrawberriesIt’s almost strawberry season.  I’m impatient.  So, I purchase supermarket strawberries, just to get myself in the mood.  They are almost always a disappointment, but oddly enough, even those work reasonably well with this lovely springtime dessert. Meatloaf RomanaI forget about meatloaf and I don’t know why.  We love it.  It’s goes together quickly.  It practically bakes itself and damn, it’s just so delicious.  And best of all, it makes great sandwiches.  I’ve already given you Roadhouse Meatloaf, but you should have this one, too.  Continue reading →

Spiced Pear-Plum ApplesauceApplesauce is delicious.  This is better.  My sister is the creator of this.  Years ago, she made this for The Progeny.  They loved it.  They still do.  I used to make huge amounts of this and can it in quart jars.  The Eldest One used to eat it by the quart, quite literally.  Continue reading →

Creamy Horseradish-Mustard SauceI thought I’d posted this already, but I guess I overlooked it…and that’s bad.  Really bad.  Because this is spectacularly good with Corned Beef with Beer Gravy and it’s that time of year.  When The Progeny are around the table, I have to make huge quantities, because it truly is…all…about…this…sauce!  Continue reading →

Broccoli-Apple Slaw with Cranberries and a Creamy Citrus DressingI picked up a bag of broccoli slaw, when the store was out of regular slaw.  I’m so glad I did.  I love the stuff, but The Goddess has never met a piece of broccoli she didn’t love.  There must be a little Italian blood in her veins, rather than the rumored ice water.  Continue reading →

Pouring the Reduced Syrup over the Candied Jalapeño PeppersWe recently enjoyed a brunch at Dirty Food in Toronto.  I had their hamburger.  I don’t think I’ve ever met a burger I didn’t like or want to eat.  And Dirty Food didn’t disappoint.  They also happen to make superb home fries, which I love, but are so many times disappointing.  But, I digress.  Back to the burger….one of the items available to top my burger—candied jalapeños!  Why don’t I know about these?  They were wonderful…a little hot, a little sweet and totally delicious.  Well now, The Goddess had to reproduce them.  Continue reading →

Winter Peach Tarte Tartin with Guava GlazeWhat’s up using peaches in the winter?  They aren’t in season, so what is The Goddess thinking?  Well, she’s thinking that frozen fruit is a blessing and prolongs the seasons.  What could be more surprising and delicious than peaches at Christmas?  Continue reading →

Cornbread for StuffingThis is a more substantial cornbread than the Sour Cream Cornbread I posted a while back.  That version is my favorite for serving as a side, slathered with butter and a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.  But this version holds up better for stuffing (or dressing).   Continue reading →

Cassata with Ricotta-Mascarpone Filling with RaspberriesCassata is a wonderful dessert.  It’s perhaps, sponge cake at its very best.  Brush on some Lemoncello®, smear on a ricotta-mascarpone filling and serve with a wonderfully fresh, macerated fruit compote and YUM!  There’s just one other thing…this has to be made ahead, which makes it the perfect dinner party dessert.
