A lovely young woman, who we’ll call The Spicy Charmer, had this tongue-tingling little concoction at La Veccia, in Toronto. She described it, we chatted about it and we came up with this version of Hot Pepper Rings in Olive Oil with Garlic. Continue reading
Fried Oysters are one of The Goddess’s indulgences. They are the perfect culinary storm. They are rich. They are crispy on the outside and almost creamy on the interior. They are a thing of beauty. They are also a wonderful childhood memory.
It’s all about the sauce. It really is. But, you already know this. A sauce can make the ordinary, a truly extraordinary culinary experience. So, we’re going to talk about sauces over the next little while. Let’s go….
I can’t believe I haven’t posted this before. Yes, The Goddess was holding out on you, and after you make this you’ll be ticked that she did. But, she’s trying to redeem herself here. Fresh chorizo is a good thing to know how to make. It makes great meatballs and patties, as well as an excellent stuffing for dates.

You know how The Goddess loves her sauce. This one is a passion. It’s simplicity itself to make. It’s spectacularly flexible and it’s extraordinarily delicious. I’m thinking this will be and incredible glaze for our Thanksgiving turkey.
We love ripe plantains, or as the Cubans call them, “maduros”. Which means, “ripe”. Go figure! Maduros are sweet, rich and just terrific with something savory. This was a true regional fusion and were astoundingly delicious.
Picadillo is a favorite of The Latin Lover and the Progeny. We like it a bit on the soupier side, because we serve it with or over rice and usually black beans and fried ripe plantains (maduros). So The Goddess decided to throw caution to the wind and combine these flavors. I mean, why not?
Tomato Soup and grilled cheese. It’s a marriage made in heaven and it is truly a heavenly combination. Today is one of those chilly, rainy days that’s perfect for soup…and maybe a sandwich. It’s comfort food, but of course, there’s a twist. There’s always a twist with The Goddess.
