Depression Chocolate Cake reaches back to a time when, with very little, people made some pretty delicious things…necessity being the Mother of Invention and all. This is one of those delicious things.
I received a jar of delicious mixed nuts for my birthday. The Unbound Reader and Middle Son, we the source of this goodness. These nuts (not the children!) were addictive. I’m certain you noticed that past tense reference. They were crisp, ever so slightly sweet and salty, with a really savory spice flavor. Well, I thought it worthwhile to try and reproduce them in far greater quantity. This is that experiment.

It seems that everyone is baking bread these pandemic days. Particularly sour dough, which The Goddess wandered into, when yeast was not so readily available. But, she’s returned to her roots…the bread you eat everyday! A good, basic loaf….
Our young and charming friend, Lauryn, likes to cook. And she’s good at it. She texted me a picture of an orb of bread she made. It looked fabulous, so naturally I asked for the recipe. Bless her heart for sharing it with me!
This bread came by way of a local supermarket, in the small town, I grew up in. They had a good bakery and this bread was a winner. It’s loaded with protein, different flours and it’s wonderful…really wonderful, toasted.
This is one of those wonderful seasoning blends that you’ll use on all sorts of things. Herb Salt makes pretty much everything taste better, particularly potatoes. But, don’t limit yourself. Try it on everything…you might want to spare that cheesecake, but if it’s savory….
This is one of those little sweethearts-of-a-recipe. It’s fast, easy and just supremely delicious. It’s good warm or at room temperature. I plop them on top of salads, serve them on the side of a grilled pork, chicken or salmon, or smear them on some nice toast with a bit of brie.
