Okay.  Right off I want you to know that The Goddess is misleading you.  Yup.  She’s leading you down the culinary garden path.  She broiled the corn; she has no grill.  And creamy?  There is no cream, either.  But, I’m here to tell you.  This is truly delicious! Continue reading →

Citrus-Roasted Persian Chicken ThighsThe Goddess was out and about today in search of yarn.  That’s right.  She doesn’t live by cooking alone!  Anyway, she was planning on have lunch at Torange.  And sadness…they’ve closed.  They were such lovely people and the food was wonderful.  They were even nice enough to sell her sumac and barberry, which, if you aren’t familiar with either of these, you need to find them and start using them.  So, in memory of Torange, she decided to make this chicken.  Continue reading →

This is one of those totally self-indulgent dishes…well, self-indulgent for me.  I love fried rice.  White rice you can keep, except to act as a nice fluffy, feather bed to be blanketed with a great sauce.  This is a version of an after-work meal that I dream of.  It’s the sole reason The Goddess makes extra rice.  Continue reading →

Rice is a cereal grain; there are white, brown, black, red and purple varieties of rice.  Rice offers a wonderful backdrop for other flavors, because it is has such a neutral flavor.  Combined with legumes, it becomes a vegetarian  protein.  It is low in fat and offers a good deal of Vitamin B, potassium, and phosphorus, as well as some fiber, which is all great…but how do I cook perfect rice? Continue reading →

Arroz con Pollo is part of The Latin Lover’s childhood.  He likes this version, because it has tons of flavor, with just a bit of smoky heat.  This is a fix-it-and-forget-it meal, thanks to the slow cooker; dinner will be ready when you come home and the aroma…baby, life is good!  Continue reading →

Fried Rice is a favorite of The Latin Lover; well really, who doesn’t like fried rice?  It’s fried, after all.  This is the version I made yesterday, but it changes according to what I’m feeling and what I’m serving the rice with.  Rice is a blank canvas for flavor!  You will need cold rice, so plan ahead…there it is again!  Continue reading →

021The Goddess loves these Tuscan flavors.  The Latin Lover thought this the perfect Valentine’s Day dinner for two…it’s coming up in a week, so I’m helping you plan ahead.   This is good, simple peasant food.  It is full-bodied and full-flavored, the perfect meal for an after-snow removal dinner, but delicious enough for lovers to share!  Continue reading →
