This should probably be called a salsa. But then most people conjure up a flavor profile of tomatoes, onions, peppers, with maybe a bit of fruit tossed in. That’s not this…at all. I’m serving this with very simply prepared fish, but it’s all about the fruit mixture. I could seriously eat the whole bowl. Just standing there, leaning up against the cupboard…it’s that good. Once you’ve eaten freezer jam, you’ll never go back. The color is spectacularly red and sparkling, but the flavor is unbelievable. Smearing some strawberry freezer jam (or preserves) on a scone, on Christmas morning, is the best Christmas gift you can give yourself or your family. Make room in your freezer….
The Goddess adores pickled things and this is a favorite. These are fast, easy and delicious. It’s is one of “those” condiments. You want to have a jar of these beauties in the fridge at all times. There are so, so, so many ways to use Pickled Red Onions.
“The corn is as high as an elephant’s eye”, so the song goes. It’s the perfect time to make a little corn relish. This isn’t exactly a chutney. It’s really a cross between a chutney and a relish. It’s sweet and sour. It’s fruity, but with a hit of savory because of the Worcestershire and vinegar. You know, it really doesn’t matter what we call it. What matters is that it’s delicious!
I have no idea if you would ever find this on a dinner table in Turkey. But, it has those flavors and I think, any Turkish cook might approve. For me, this is a stand-over-the-sink-and-eat-with-a-spoon-type of condiment.
This is one of those wonderful seasoning blends that you’ll use on all sorts of things. Herb Salt makes pretty much everything taste better, particularly potatoes. But, don’t limit yourself. Try it on everything…you might want to spare that cheesecake, but if it’s savory….
The Eldest Progeny made this for dinner. He uses it as both a salad and a condiment. It’s really simplicity itself, as most wonderful things tend to be.
As I may have mentioned a couple of times, The Goddess loves, loves, loves garlic. Is there such a thing as too much garlic? She thinks not. If garlic isn’t your thing, you need to stop reading right now. Go do something else and wait for the next post. But, if garlic is your thing, then read on, my friend, read on.
