It’s autumn in New England. Okay, so it’s autumn everywhere, but New England autumns are a Currier & Ives-type of beautiful. This is The Goddess’s time of year. There’s that little nip in the air, but no frost on the shrinking, post-Halloween pumpkins just yet. The flavors of fall are big, bold flavors. This sauce is a perfect mid-week sauce, but why wait? Cassata is a wonderful dessert. It’s perhaps, sponge cake at its very best. Brush on some Lemoncello®, smear on a ricotta-mascarpone filling and serve with a wonderfully fresh, macerated fruit compote and YUM! There’s just one other thing…this has to be made ahead, which makes it the perfect dinner party dessert.
Tomato Soup and grilled cheese. It’s a marriage made in heaven and it is truly a heavenly combination. Today is one of those chilly, rainy days that’s perfect for soup…and maybe a sandwich. It’s comfort food, but of course, there’s a twist. There’s always a twist with The Goddess.
Caramel sauce is spectacularly good. It’s rich. It’s easy. And it’s always good to have some in the fridge, waiting for just the right moment. You know, like when the sun rises in the east. So grab a spoon.
This was fantastic fried chicken. Not only does this taste fantastic, but you can use up leftover pickle juice. Yeah, I know. Most people simply pour it down the sink, but The Goddess hates waste, so this was the perfect solution. And it brings back a wonderful childhood memory…my mother’s fried chicken.
I love Three Bean Salad. It always seems to be on the summer dinner tables, but it is truly good all year long. Anyway, I was hungry for it, but I decided to make a slightly different version than the one my mother made, which I have always loved. I added corn and potatoes. It works. It works well.
This is true fusions cooking. Seriously. Citrus and plums? From Persia you have cinnamon, cloves, coriander, cumin and oranges…and then there are those plums. Oh wait…that’s also Indian, isn’t it? Hmmm…but just to confuse things further, there’s some Sichuan pepper, allspice and hot chilies in the mix, too.
We had a fantastic eggplant appetizer at
This is wonderful on a hot day. And there are still have a few hot days around. This is a riff on the shrimp salad my mother used to make. She used canned shrimp, because we didn’t get much fresh or frozen shrimp in the Northern Plains back in the day. But, we’ve come a long way baby.
September is National Papaya Month. I just found this out, but you all probably knew that. Who decides this sort of thing, I wonder? Well, if we’re going to honor the papaya, then let’s see what we can do with this lovely, velvety, rich fruit other than eat it for breakfast. Savory. That’s what I was looking for. And this sauce is savory, rich, subtly sweet and has a wonderful texture.
