What do you do when your fridge freezes everything in your crisper drawers? You use those frozen cukes to make a nice, chilled cucumber soup! It’s simple as can be…everything goes in the blender, whirl away and into the fridge for a couple of hours and you have lunch. Or dinner. Life is good! Continue reading
Depression Chocolate Cake reaches back to a time when, with very little, people made some pretty delicious things…necessity being the Mother of Invention and all. This is one of those delicious things.
Spice cake was my father’s favorite cake. My mother had two recipes, a variation on her Sour Cream Cake, which frankly I’ve never had good luck with, and this one. Which I always have very, very good luck with.
This little gem of a cake is perfect for breakfast or an afternoon tea (or coffee). It’s moist, actually gets better as it sits, (though it is damn fine the first day, too!), isn’t too sweet, keeps well and is more or less, a one-bowl cake. It is just plain lovely!
This was one of those recipes that you read and think, “Oh, my God…I need to make this right now”…except it’s two o’clock in the morning and you’re reading cookbooks because…who knows why? Except you aren’t asleep. But, the next morning…okay, later in the morning, I was in the kitchen peeling pears!
Vini da Arturo, in Venice, makes this incredibly simple, but delicious dish. It’s perfect for summer and it’s gets better the next day. Bring this to the next potluck BBQ.
The Goddess is experimenting, yet again. Potato Salad is one of her favorites and one of her favorites to “mess” with. When the bag of sun-dried tomatoes dropped out of the cupboard and the prosciutto package slid out of the fridge…well, you don’t need to be hit by a Vaporetto to see the signs!
This is a perfect and perfectly delicious vegetarian entrée. Of course, you can stuff zucchini, but if you can get your hands on some patty pan squash, grab ’em up. They’re just so much more fun. These reheat well, so they can be prepared when you have time and then you can simply reheat for a nice mid-week meal.
Flavored hummus seems to be all the rage these days. And with good reason. It’s very tasty stuff. Peas and mint are a natural combination. The lovely cool green just screams summer.
Banana Bread is delicious, but it’s particularly delicious with toasted nuts and chocolate. This one’s boozed up, even though I may have this for breakfast. Toasted with butter….MMMMM!
