This isn’t exactly a chutney. It’s really a cross between a chutney and a relish. It’s sweet and sour. It’s fruity, but with a hit of savory because of the Worcestershire and vinegar. You know, it really doesn’t matter what we call it. What matters is that it’s delicious! Continue reading
The Goddess likes cake. Yes, she does. She doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth, but chocolate cake is so good for breakfast. This recipe is a riff on that old Peg Bracken cake from her
I adore ensalada rusa, or Russian Potato Salad. When we were in Spain, I ate every version I could find and no two were exactly the same. Isn’t that what makes cooking and dining interesting? This version, which contains beets, if both beautiful and refreshing.
Think of this cole slaw as a “monsoon” of tropical flavors…pineapple, mango, orange…need I say more? Okay, maybe I do, but you’re going to want to slap this on some fish tacos or anything seafood-y. Or just have it for breakfast.
Fresh chorizo is a good thing to know how to make. It makes great meatballs and patties, as well as an excellent stuffing for dates.
I love Three Bean Salad. It always seems to be on the summer dinner tables, but it is truly good all year long. Anyway, I was hungry for it, but I decided to make a slightly different version than the one my mother made, which I have always loved. I added corn and potatoes. It works. It works well.
It’s that time of year, when the garden’s abundance is at its pinnacle and the summer heat is beyond The Goddess’s tolerance. But, you still want to eat. This is the perfect meal to be the heat and use some of those veggies—cucumbers, radishes, onions, zucchini, corn and of course, tomatoes, tomatoes, tomatoes!
Burgers….MMMMM! The Goddess loves her burgers. You can keep filet mignon (except for the Bordelaise sauce) or NY strip (except for the béarnaise sauce—I’m seeing a theme here!), but don’t take away her burgers. She bites the hand that does that. But, this is about the sauce. Just as it should be.
This is my version of “special sauce”. It’s great on burgers, steamed or roasted veggies, potatoes (yeah, I know they are veggies, too), roast beef and Reuben sandwiches, too. It’s a great dip, too.
