Tonkatsu, simply put, is the Japanese version of chicken-fried pork cutlets. Usually the breaded pork is deep-fried, but we’re going to shallow fry the cutlets and serve them with homemade “Bulldog” sauce…yum! Continue reading
Sloppy Joe’s were always my birthday request when I was but a wee one. I still love them. My mother made hers with tomato soup, but I tend not to use canned soups…I think it might just be a bit of snobbery on my part, because there really was a reason I asked for them every year. They were sublimely delicious!
Pimento Cheese Spread is synonymous with the Southern US. It’s everywhere and can be easily purchased in the deli section of most supermarkets. Now purists would have us believe, and they’re probably right, that the supermarket stuff is well, YUK! But, in a pinch, and when you don’t know what the “real thing” should taste like, it’s not too bad!
There is a plethora of origin stories for Caesar salad. The most common is probably the one that suggests it originated in Mexico, in the early 1920’s, made by the Cardini brothers. Eggs and bacon go together like…well, bacon and eggs! These are really the basic recipe for deviled eggs. The garnish is up to you, but we like bacon, a sprinkle of fresh snipped chives and tonight, a thin slice of a cherry tomato. The Latin Lover will be happy, as he loves deviled eggs.
The key to a successful stir-fry, is a hot wok and having your mis en place, in place (pun totally intended!). Have everything sliced and diced before you even put the pan on the stove. Then, turn on the exhaust fan and crank the heat!

This isn’t exactly a salsa in the Mexican-dip-for-tortilla chips sense, but more of an uncooked, chunky thick sauce…maybe a dressing? But, no matter what you call it, it’s a nice change of pace and it’s delicious. It’s great over a steak, on a burger or even on chicken. This is just perfect for summer, when tomatoes come rolling in.
