Not a very sexy title, is that? I was going to call it “The Tale of Two Coils” but, I decided a straight-forward, actual description was the way to go. So here we are. And it’s a pretty delicious place to be. This is my basic, go to roll dough recipe, but with options! Continue reading

Eggs, flour, milk and cheese, cheese, cheese! What’s not to love? It goes together in a flash, into the oven and wait…it’s the longest 30 minutes you may ever spend!
This is a nice alternative to the typical shrimp cocktail. Also, it has dill. Dill is an underused herb and it’s a great foil for shrimp. Ketchup adds a little touch of sweetness and the lemon juice adds a nice little acidic bite…balance. It’s all about balance, Baby!
We had a wonderful weekend with The Middle Progeny, The Unbound Reader, who were kind enough to interrupt their busy lives and bring our brilliant granddaughter to the Carolinas. After they left, the house seemed quiet…too quiet, so I rummaged around in the fridge and ran across some of the leftover
For years I’ve seen Croque-Monsieur on menus and thought, “hmmm, a grilled cheese made into French toast…” Thanks, but I think I’ll pass. Then, I had this version…with béchamel…mmmm.
Panzanella or Fattoush? That is the question. In reality, they are pretty much the same salad…and yet, not. That makes no sense, does it? The Tuscans have their Ribollita. The Galicians have their Caldo Gallego. The Lisbonites have their Caldo Verde. And we, have this “Souppa”. Most cultures have some similar soup, a simple, nutritious, inexpensive and delicious soup or stew, using what’s on hand. This is peasant food, at its very best.
Yesterday The Goddess very pointedly told you not to use oily fish for ceviche. Clearly, she’s not to be trusted. Because today, here she is, using tuna in ceviche. So, it turns out that tuna (and I have used salmon—horrors!) is really quite lovely in ceviche.
Crêpes are wonderfully flexible, but not eaten nearly enough. They seem to have become passé. They’re no longer as exotic or sexy, as they once were. And, it’s a damn shame, I tell you. So let’s bring them back.
This was supper today. This is pure comfort. It’s been a long day, I was tired and I had leftover garlic rice, a nice, plump ripe avocado, eggs and onion and these flavors are crazy good together. This is a great breakfast and dish, too. MMMmmmm….
