Lentils with Carrot-Fennel-Onion and Orange

These peanut noodles are creamy and thick and just plain good. This is one of those recipes that is pretty flexible, depending on your taste…so adjust away!
The Spicy Honey loves, loves, loves Bolognese sauce. And admittedly, I’ve never been particularly happy with my previous attempts. They were just ho-hum. This one…I’m very happy with, and I think you might be, too!
Sloppy Joe’s are pure comfort for me. They were always my birthday request, with tons of raw onion slices and dill pickles. I’m have a momentary ecstatic longing for my 8th birthday! So, why no make them now? Why long for something so delicious?
I’ve never been too big a fan of Manhattan-Style Clam Chowder. I prefer creamy soups to tomatoy-brothy soups, but I gotta’ tell you…I like this one. I like this one a lot. It’s loaded with vegetables, chunky and while there’s broth, it has a heap of flavor. And you know, The Goddess is all about flavor.
Honestly, I really had been thinking about potato soup today. I had leftover mashed potatoes, with just a bit of parsnip in them. This is a perfect situation to make a soup. I had some ham, a couple of slices of jamón Iberico, a few leftover roasted baby potatoes, and I shredded up a carrot. You can see the “roots” of a soup, can’t you?
Lamb makes a wonderful sauce to splash over pasta, or better yet, cheese-filled tortellini. This version of ragú is wonderfully complex, with a deliciously interesting combination of herbs and spices. This is company fare.
This is a wonderfully, quick and equally delicious sauce. And everyone should be able to make a good tomato or pasta sauce.
I just recently had a wonderful meal at Ariana, in Philadelphia’s Old Town. It was a frigid cold night, as one can expect in February. I didn’t have their “Aush” or “Mashawa”, which are typical Afghan soups, but I saw bowls or it going by and it smelled heavenly. Turns out, it is.
Sloppy Joe’s were always my birthday request when I was but a wee one. I still love them. My mother made hers with tomato soup, but I tend not to use canned soups…I think it might just be a bit of snobbery on my part, because there really was a reason I asked for them every year. They were sublimely delicious!
