I “discovered” black barley about five or six years ago. Black barley is a different beast, than pearled barley. It shares that somewhat nutty flavor, but it retains a delightful chewiness…texture, Baby! Continue reading
This is one of those salads that just goes together by itself. Okay, so you do have to cut things up, and stir things up, but otherwise, it’s stupid simple. This is good any time of the year, but when your garden patch is bursting with goodness, this is positively stellar.
This is a throw-back to my childhood. On hot summer days (we didn’t have air-condition!), when my mother didn’t want to heat up the kitchen, she would make this in the morning, and put it in the fridge. It is a great option for a summer picnic salad, as it’s both easy and can sit out for a bit. But, it’s just as good in the dead of winter, with two feet of snow on the ground. Did I mention that it’s also delicious?
You know how The Goddess is always nattering on about leftovers, well this is why she loves, loves, lovers her leftovers. Remember the
Yesterday The Goddess very pointedly told you not to use oily fish for ceviche. Clearly, she’s not to be trusted. Because today, here she is, using tuna in ceviche. So, it turns out that tuna (and I have used salmon—horrors!) is really quite lovely in ceviche.
