Hoisin-Sauced, Roasted Gai Lan and Spring OnionsThis is a really nice side dish for an Asian-inspired dinner.  Well, for any dinner, really.  I love spring onions.  They are like giant scallions, but more onion-y and maybe a bit sweeter.  At any rate, they’re darned delicious.  Continue reading →

Great Wall Spicy, Orange-Beef Stir-FryThe key to a successful stir-fry, is a hot wok and having your mis en place, in place (pun totally intended!).  Have everything sliced and diced before you even put the pan on the stove.  Then, turn on the exhaust fan and crank the heat!  Continue reading →

Ramen with Chinese Greens and GingerI found a nice Asian market here in South Florida.  I love Asian markets with their offal, their weird and wonderful fish and shellfish and their greens.  I love their greens.  I was thrilled to discover Chrysanthemum leaves or Tong Ho.   Continue reading →

The Teriyaki BurgerI love and adore The Spicy Honey and The Progeny.  From a culinary standpoint…I love and adore burgers.  All of them.  Every iteration I’ve ever eaten.  This one is a favorite.  It’s good rain or shine, winter or summer, for dinner or breakfast.  Continue reading →

Teriyaki Burger SauceBurgers….MMMMM!  The Goddess loves her burgers.  You can keep filet mignon (except for the Bordelaise sauce) or NY strip (except for the béarnaise sauce—I’m seeing a theme here!), but don’t take away her burgers.  She bites the hand that does that.  But, this is about the sauce.  Just as it should be. Sichuan Cucumber SaladThis is a nice little salad to have in your repertoire.  It is the perfect summer salad, but joy of joys, since good cucumbers, a.k.a. English cucumbers are available year round, it’s a non-seasonal salad or side.  It packs a nice kick of heat and garlic…Vampires beware!  Continue reading →

Salmon & Tuna TartareThis is a terrific lunch or first course.  I serve it as is, or smeared on crackers or toasts.  It’s delicious, light, and has a lovely texture; sort of silky on the tongue.  If you like sushi, you’ll love this mixture.  Continue reading →

Asian-Flavored Celery SaladCelery is an underrated vegetable.  We haul it out when we diet and when we have Buffalo wings (who knew buffalo could fly!) or we make soup, but otherwise it tends to languish in the crisper drawer, until you’re pulling out a bag of slime and looking for the garbage can.  This has happened to you and you know it.  No more, I tell you.  Celery is a great vegetable, not to be ignored.  It can be a star and salads are a great place to start.  Continue reading →

Roasted Kung Pao Chicken Thighs with Stir-Fry Vegetables and Ginger RiceYou realize that The Goddess thinks about food and food preparation all the time.  It’s sort of an obsession.  She’s not normal, I tell ya’.  She’s always pondering about the “what if’s” and the “why for’s”, the culinary road less, or not at all traveled!  Recently, Chinese food has been on her mind; she was thinking about Kung Pao Chicken.  That’s what prompted this culinary adventure.  Continue reading →
