When I was a child, bread pudding was a frequent visitor to our table. My father loved custard-y things and my mother’s bread pudding fit that bill perfectly. I make mine a bit different, but the roots are in that farm kitchen.
I’ve been reading this really interesting cookbook, ****************. Actually, it’s less of a cookbook, though they have some wonderful recipes, and more of a reference work. At least for me it is. The authors are a chef and a specialist in scents. What a combination, right?
The Dynamite Doula, a young woman who is near-and-dear to us, invited us over for lunch. She has a new “InstaPot”, the pressure cooker-sauté pan-slow cooker pot and a whole lot more. It turns out we have the same one, kindred spirits that we are! Anyway, she, and her Dear One, served us a version of this wonderful, rib-sticking, winter-chasing bean soup. It was supremely delicious, The Spicy Honey loved it and so I decided to see if I can come close to repeating her soup.
The Goddess likes cake. Yes, she does. She doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth, but chocolate cake is so good for breakfast. This recipe is a riff on that old Peg Bracken cake from her
What? Has The Goddess been smoking herbs again? You might think that, but this came to be because she forgot to make pizza dough. And anyway, this is pretty much pizza, cooked in an oven-to-table pan, finished in the oven and served with good Italian bread to scoop up all that yumminess. So, it’s pizza, without a crust.
This is a wonderfully, quick and equally delicious sauce. And everyone should be able to make a good tomato or pasta sauce.
