I was flying around the InterWebs and ran across a reference to Apple Fritter Bread, and I thought it sounded wonderful…but that one was a quick bread. I wanted a yeast bread and then I found one. So I took to my handy-dandy roll recipe and made a change here and there, so here we are! This dough is pillowy soft and somewhat sticky, but a dream to work with. I takes a bit longer for it to raise, because it’s both rich and sweet. You know, good things!

Fresh peach pie tends to disappoint me. It never seems to do justice to the flavor of a fresh, fabulous peach. It’s a bias I have, but I’m working on it. And that’s when I decided that maybe if I used part nectarines, I might be happier with the end result. Yes!

This is a throw-back to my childhood. On hot summer days (we didn’t have air-condition!), when my mother didn’t want to heat up the kitchen, she would make this in the morning, and put it in the fridge. At dinner time, she would add it to chopped iceberg lettuce, along with thawed frozen peas. It was so very good, at the end of a hot day.

This is summer…or in this case, late spring, on a plate. It’s perfect for lunch or dinner, and can go main course by adding some shrimp or tuna. Use whatever beans you have in your cupboard, but garbanzo or kidney are my favorite for this salad.
This was one of those recipes that you read and think, “Oh, my God…I need to make this right now”…except it’s two o’clock in the morning and you’re reading cookbooks because…who knows why? Except you aren’t asleep. But, the next morning…okay, later in the morning, I was in the kitchen peeling pears!
