Hot Potato Salad with Bacon, Cheese and Sun-Dried TomatoesYou know how The Goddess loves potato salads of all kinds.  She’s given you Classically Good Potato Salad, French-Style Potato Salad and Grilled Potato Salad.  This one is pretty much a basic potato salad, but she riffed on the dressing used for German potato salad and then threw in a few things she thought would be tasty.  Continue reading →

Tomato-Corn ChowderI just made this for dinner tonight.  The Spicy Honey loves tomato soup, but he usually prefers the kind in the can.  However, he does enjoy this one.  This is an incredibly simple and delicious soup.  With summer on the horizon, this seems to work, even when the heat creeps into our bones.  Continue reading →

Schug (Yemeni Hot Sauce)Move over chimichurri!  This will be your go-to sauce for the summer.  I found this over at the Tasting Table.  Those folks come up with some amazing dishes, it’s not surprising to find this gem on their website.  And this most certainly is a gem.  Continue reading →

Spiced Pear-Plum ApplesauceApplesauce is delicious.  This is better.  My sister is the creator of this.  Years ago, she made this for The Progeny.  They loved it.  They still do.  I used to make huge amounts of this and can it in quart jars.  The Eldest One used to eat it by the quart, quite literally.  Continue reading →

Broccoli-Apple Slaw with Cranberries and a Creamy Citrus DressingI picked up a bag of broccoli slaw, when the store was out of regular slaw.  I’m so glad I did.  I love the stuff, but The Goddess has never met a piece of broccoli she didn’t love.  There must be a little Italian blood in her veins, rather than the rumored ice water.  Continue reading →

Brazilian-Style Shrimp Bisque (Sopa de Camarão)This is, at its heart, the shrimp bisque you’re familiar with.  But I was feeling the Carnaval vibe, given the time of year, and the shrimp looked so tasty, so I decided to jazz up the regular old bisque with some Brazilian flavors.  It worked.  And The Spicy Honey loved it.  Lent won’t be all about sacrifice, after all!  Continue reading →

Butter-Basted Rib Eye with Tarragon and OnionsI’ve been hearing and reading about butter-basting steak for some years now, but I had sort of dismissed it.  That was a mistake.  I decided it was time to try it.  Oh, yes.  I should never have dismissed it.  It was, note the past tense, incredibly rich and delicious.  Continue reading →

Breaded Pork Cutlet with Lemongrass-Garlic and Soy MarinadeThink schnitzel, with Asian flavors.  Why not?  It’s crispy.  It’s complex.  It’s delicious.  Did I mention that it’s best marinated ahead of time, so there’s minimal last minute prep?  Now, I have your attention…. Continue reading →

Roll-Your-Own Sole Filled with Spinach Drizzled with Brown ButterThe Goddess does so love creamed spinach…maybe it’s that “Green Goddess” thing.  Who knows, but love it, she does (that sounded eerily like Yoda…hmmm).  Brown butter is lovely with fish.  It’s rich and nutty and just plain wonderful.  So this fish encompasses many favorites, it doesn’t take long to prepare and bake, either.  And it looks mahhhvelous!  Continue reading →
