Tomato-Leek & Fennel Soup with LentilsI like lentils.  Actually, as far as legumes go, I think lentils may be my favorite.  The Latin Lover is, shall we say, less fond of them.  A bad childhood memory.  But I’m trying to convert him.  It’s always good to eradicate a bad childhood food memory and create a new, all-gown-up food memory!  I think this soup may have done it!   Continue reading →

Open-Faced Pizza BurgerThe Goddess was thinking about pizza for dinner or maybe a burger, but it was raining most convincingly.  We’re talking monsoon, get-out-the-hip-waders!  This was ark-building-type of downpour!…and this is the dry season in Florida…thank Goddess there’s no global warming…or the weather might be totally crazy!  But, I digress.  Continue reading →

Prairie Chili with BeansThe weather outside is frightful!  Chili is just this thing to take a bite out of the cold.  I know we’ve explored Chili with all the Good Stuff! in the past.  Though similar, this version is much closer to the chili my mother made, out there on the Prairie.  I make us sound like the Wilder’s from “Little House on the Prairie”, don’t I?  However, I don’t recall that they made chili!  Continue reading →

Hummus with Pumpkin and Roasted PepperI was going to call this Autumn Hummus, but really, what does that tell you?  Nada!  The pumpkin and roasted peppers are there, but they are subtle.  Not front flavors at all.  And it’s very festive-looking.  Continue reading →

Paprika-Caraway Cheese SpreadI won’t even pretend this is a Liptauer-like cheese spread.  Because, it isn’t that.  I think we can assume its roots live there, but it matters not.  It’s truly delightful schmeared on a bagel.  Continue reading →

Oyster Stew with Spinach and TarragonTradition!  Tradition!  Can you hear the music soaring?  Can you see the fiddler on the roof?  Well, Oyster Stew was a New Year’s Eve tradition in my home.  It was a simple version—butter, finely minced onion, whole milk, heavy cream, oyster and their liquor and heaps of black pepper…any oyster crackers.  Simple and simply delicious.  Continue reading →

Spicy Mexican BrowniesIs there anyone who doesn’t love brownies?  Really.  Is there?  But, now the big question…are you a fudgy-type or cake brownie-type of person?  I’m afraid, I’m both.  But, I definitely lean fudgy!  And these are fudgy, but with a little kick of heat at the back…Nice!  Continue reading →

Bourbon Sweet Potatoes with Bacon-Pecan ToppingSweet potatoes or yams, I honestly don’t really know the difference.  I know there is a difference.  But, if you mash ’em up with some bourbon, top ’em with bacon and pecans and a good drizzle of maple syrup…well then, I don’t think it matters one bit.  Continue reading →

Sweet Curry MayoA Thanksgiving turkey sandwich with slices of sweet mango, a good schmear of Sweet Curry Mayo, is hands-down, no contest, the favorite way The Eldest Progeny likes to have his leftover Thanksgiving turkey.  And if a couple of slices of bacon happen to jump on the sandwich, he’ll sacrifice himself.  It’s the blend of flavors, I guess.  But, I always make a good-sized container of Sweet Curry Mayo for him and his sandwiches.  Continue reading →

Spicy Apple-Cranberry ChutneyAnyone you knows The Goddess, knows that her refrigerator is always bursting at the seams.  The reason?  One word…condiments.  Condiments and sauces are where it’s at.  It’s such a luxury to have jars of sauces, relishes or chutney tucked away, just waiting to be smeared on crackers, or added to a grilled cheese. Or serve alongside your Thanksgiving turkey, which is a nice change from, or in addition to, cranberry relish.   Continue reading →
