We traveled North for the holidays. it’s a bit chillier there than in the Carolinas, but decidedly more Christmas-y. This soup/chowder came about through the wonderful duo, Dave and Terri! They always come up with delicious fare and this was truly an inspiring way to ring in the New Year. Continue reading
I’ve never been too big a fan of Manhattan-Style Clam Chowder. I prefer creamy soups to tomatoy-brothy soups, but I gotta’ tell you…I like this one. I like this one a lot. It’s loaded with vegetables, chunky and while there’s broth, it has a heap of flavor. And you know, The Goddess is all about flavor.
Honestly, I really had been thinking about potato soup today. I had leftover mashed potatoes, with just a bit of parsnip in them. This is a perfect situation to make a soup. I had some ham, a couple of slices of jamón Iberico, a few leftover roasted baby potatoes, and I shredded up a carrot. You can see the “roots” of a soup, can’t you?
It’s chilly here in North Carolina. I think chillier than last year at this time. And that makes it perfect soup weather. And there’s something so comforting, and well, soul-warming about beef-barley soup. Get out the soup spoons and the good bread.
With flu season upon us with a vengeance, I thought this was a good time of year to make a brothy, vegetable soup. There are a few beans tossed in, but they were more of an afterthought. This soup is all about vegetables, is slightly salty and will warm you to your bones.
The Dynamite Doula, a young woman who is near-and-dear to us, invited us over for lunch. She has a new “InstaPot”, the pressure cooker-sauté pan-slow cooker pot and a whole lot more. It turns out we have the same one, kindred spirits that we are! Anyway, she, and her Dear One, served us a version of this wonderful, rib-sticking, winter-chasing bean soup. It was supremely delicious, The Spicy Honey loved it and so I decided to see if I can come close to repeating her soup.
As you know, The Goddess does vegetables, but not really into the vegetarian thing. She loves her burgers, chicken and pork! But, sometimes a person needs to get outside their little world and wander a bit. This is what happens when she wanders off the beaten path….
This is a “meal” soup. I fixed this for a special someone who had just driven for about nine hours. After that grueling ordeal, you don’t want something too heavy. You want comfort food. You don’t want to be stuffed, but you’re hungry. This soup is the perfect solution for that dilemma.
Salmorejo is well known as a summer soup, the Andalusian version of gazpacho. We just recently returned from the Iberian peninsula and whenever salmorejo was offered, it was in front of me. This has everything—color, creamy texture, and flavor, flavor, flavor.
I just recently had a wonderful meal at Ariana, in Philadelphia’s Old Town. It was a frigid cold night, as one can expect in February. I didn’t have their “Aush” or “Mashawa”, which are typical Afghan soups, but I saw bowls or it going by and it smelled heavenly. Turns out, it is.
